Cosmopolis: Issue List

Cosmopolis was the newsletter of the Vance Integral Edition (VIE), published monthly (with occasional combined issues) from January 2000 to July 2005, for 63 issues, after which it was succeeded by Extant (see VIE.md for the VIE’s own history). The table below gives, for every issue, its publication date and its lead (“page 1”) article or feature — a useful index for locating when a given VIE event, announcement, or essay first appeared.

Methodology and sourcing

The title for each issue is the heading of the article printed first in that issue (i.e. page 1 of its own table of contents), read directly from the issue’s own masthead and contents page — not a secondary paraphrase. Two recurring generic column titles are common early on: “Project Report” and, from #24 onward, “38’s Crucible” (Paul Rhoads’ monthly editorial), and “Work Tsar Status Report” (Joel Riedesel’s production-progress column, later shortened to “Work Tsar Report”). Where the lead item is one of these recurring columns, a short parenthetical indicates that issue’s specific topic, drawn from the same issue’s table of contents. Dates are as printed on each issue’s own masthead; these agree with the publication dates given on the Foreverness/integralarchive.org download index. Issue #46 (January 2004) was missing from the local archive as of this writing and has been downloaded from integralarchive.org (cosmo/Cosmopolis-46.pdf) to complete the run; all 63 issues are now present locally. Each issue number below links to the matching PDF in the local cosmopolis/ archive.
